Back to business? I dunno<\/b><\/p>\n
Haven’t been here in a while. Why? Well, it’s complicated. Started out with me being busy working on my book. So I didn’t have time to blog properly. And I wasn’t taking freelance assignments, so there was nothing to link to. Then I finished that and I kept meaning to get back here, but as it turns out, I’m just kinda bored by everything right now. I’ve had it up to here with every single thing worth commenting on that’s been happening in the world (except the Super Bowl and I just didn’t have anything to add there). But here I am. Back. Mostly to post a link to my Pazz & Jop ballot. But I guess I’ll also make a few quick comments on some matters of minor interest, if for no other reason than to explain why they bore me so. <\/p>\n
Pazz & Jop<\/b> Here are the overall results.<\/a> And here is my ballot.<\/a> You may notice that there’s little overlap between the overall top 10 and my top 10. Two discs, I think. This makes me very happy. Not because I disagree with the results (obviously, I do, but that’s neither here nor there), but because I’m just not a group think kind of fella. So there you go. <\/p>\n Other stuff. <\/p>\n Gay marriage<\/b> As everyone on the planet knows, the esteemed members of the Massachusetts Legislature are scheduled to hold a constitutional convention today at which they’ll discuss amending an important and respectable document in such a way that it would institutionalize discrimination against gays. Nice. I’m so fucking proud of my state. Here’s why this issue bores me: It shouldn’t even be an issue. Gay marriage is as cut and dry an issue as I’ve ever seen. Ever. In my entire lifetime. Of course gay people should have the right to marry. There shouldn’t be a debate about an amendment. There shouldn’t be a debate about the issue. There shouldn’t be anything but gay marriage. And no matter what anyone tells you, there’s only one reason anyone anywhere opposes gay marriage: they are bigoted. Gay marriage opponents are ignorant, ugly, small-minded bigots who do not deserve a voice in the constitutional process any more than Klansmen. Those who claim gay marriage is an affront to their god are a) worshipping the wrong deity; and b) unable to accept that we live in a deliberately secular society. Don’t like gay marriage? Good for you. Don’t marry someone of your own gender. Have a church meeting and reaffirm your right not to let gays into your congregation. But keep your dirty paws off the constitution. It’s not yours. It’s never been yours. It’s for people who believe in freedom and equality and you’re not one of those. And don’t try to tell me I’m wrong. Because I’m not. And your pitiful, hateful, unintelligent arguments bore me to death. <\/p>\n The presidential election<\/b> I’m not voting for John Kerry, which means I once again won’t be supporting the Democratic nominee. Why? First, Kerry voted to support the war in Iraq. He can say whatever the hell he wants now about disagreeing with the way the war’s been handled, but you know what? Fuck that. I knew the Bush Administration was lying to get us in there. Hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of other average Americans knew that jackass of a pseudo-president and his lackeys were lying to us. I don’t believe for a minute that Kerry didn’t have it figured out. He should have stood up for what was right before we made this massive error. He didn’t because he knew that the idiot masses had bought into Bush’s war rhetoric (mostly because the conservative media told them they should) and he figured a vote against the war would hurt his chances of being elected president. Similarly, he’s changed his tune on the death penalty in recent years. He now supports government-sponsored murder, but only for terrorists. Sorry, John. Murder is murder. Brutality is brutality. Barbarism is barbarism. Kerry’s doing what’s in his own political interest and we all know it. So how do you trust a guy like that over the long term? You don’t. So who am I gonna vote for come November? Dunno. Socialist. Social Democrat. There will be some inevitable loser I’ll be able to support. And if that helps put Bush back in the White House, I’m OK with that. Want my vote? Give me a candidacy worth supporting. Other that that, screw you. I’m bored by the whole damned thing.<\/p>\n OK.
